Project: Casa Pires
Adress: Rua Teófilo Braga

About the project: Under Construction (2022)
The first houses built of stone and lime existed in Olhão from 1715 onwards. Perhaps our building, located at Rua Teófilo Braga 19–25 and bordering the alleys Rua do Pinheiro, Beco do Gaibéu and Travessa do Gaibéu, was one of the first Mansion Houses in Olhão. This is something we don't know (yet); but we do know, however, that the sign on the house with the date «1848» merely refers to an extensive renovation in that year.
«We», that is Romy & Markus Brändli and Dieter Zwicky - are all fans of Olhão, the stubborn Portuguese language and the incredibly beautiful landscape on the Ria Formosa. We have set ourselves the goal of renovating the broken-down old house we bought in a way that it will regain the dignity of its old days. The renovation work is still in progress, but we are thrilled with what has already been done. Tatiana Bento of Sena Architects and Flávio Simão of JMC Construções are renovating our house with their teams with great sensitivity and enthusiasm. On our Facebook site, we tell you how come, that we call the house «Casa Pires» and what amazing personalities have lived there. We also show you pictures of before, during and after the renovation.
